After recapturing top spot in the NFC West with a 28-21 win over Arizona, the Seattle Seahawks have opened as 4.5-point road favorites in next week’s matchup with the fading Philadelphia Eagles on Monday Night Football.

The Eagles saw their recent struggles continue in Week 11 with a rain-soaked 22-17 defeat at the hands of the Cleveland Browns. Despite the loss, Philadelphia continues to sit atop the NFC East standings. But with just a meagre half-game lead on their three divisional rivals, Philly could be looking up at the NFC East when they hit the gridiron at Lincoln Financial Field for Monday’s date with Seattle.

Reinforcements on the Way for Seahawks

The Seahawks managed to come out of Thursday’s win over Arizona with relatively few injuries, and could be set to welcome back some reinforcements in time for next weekend. Head coach Pete Carroll has indicated that running back Rashaad Perry and rookie defensive end Darrell Taylor could be set for a return to action in Week 12.

The return of Perry further bolsters a Seahawks backfield that got a big lift from the return of Carlos Hyde against the Cardinals. Carroll has also indicated that Chris Carson could be ready to return next week after missing three games with a foot injury.

With the Eagles run defense now among the worst in the NFL after allowing over 130 rushing yards for a sixth straight game in Sunday’s loss to Cleveland, those additions are likely to add to the Seahawks’ momentum at the sportsbooks this week.

The news isn’t so good for Greg Olsen. The Seahawks’ veteran tight end could be done for the regular season after reportedly suffering a ruptured plantar fascia on Thursday.

However, with the Seattle receiving corps otherwise in good health, Olsen’s absence is unlikely to be a big factor in any line movement this week. Seattle quarterback Russell Wilson has made use of all the downfield targets at his disposal, with 10 different Seahawks combining for 30 receiving touchdowns this season.

Wentz’s Status a Big Wild Card

The Seahawks have owned the Eagles, particularly in matchups played in the City of Brotherly Love. They’ve won outright in six straight visits since 1989. Seattle has slammed the door on the Eagles over that run, limiting Philly to just 9.7 points per game and recording a pair of shutout wins during that stretch.

Considering that history and the current dismal state of the Eagles, Philadelphia’s opening position as 4.5-point underdogs looks generous.

The Eagles saw both DE Derek Barnett and reliable veteran center Jason Kelce leave Sunday’s game with injuries. But Carson Wentz’s uncertain status will have the biggest impact on the betting line in next week’s contest.

Wentz endured another brutal outing against the Browns, compiling 235 passing yards and two scores, also tossing a pair of untimely interceptions. That included a second-quarter pick-6 that opened the scoring.

Head coach Rob Pederson was quick to give his quarterback a vote of confidence following Sunday’s loss in Cleveland, but the hue and cry for a change under center has intensified. That raises the possibility that Eagles rookie passer Jalen Hurts could get his first NFL start next week.
