When Will Sports Betting Be Legal in Oklahoma?
Legal sports betting in Oklahoma could be on the way, as the “Thunder Bill” has made its way through the state senate.
The bill, which includes the state’s NBA franchise, the Oklahoma City Thunder, and state tribes, is moving through the Oklahoma legislature, and if signed into law, could legalize online and in-person sports betting in the state.
With the Thunder involved, this bill appears to clear a major hurdle for Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt, as it would not provide exclusivity over sports betting to the state tribes. That being said, Stitt has not made an official comment, yet, on whether or not he supports or would sign this bill into law.
The coming months will play a big role in what the sports betting landscape will look like in Oklahoma. We could see legal sports betting within a year, or we could be in for months of legal entanglements.
