Lewis Ritson’s Rise to a World Title Bid
Lewis Ritson has put together a three-fight win streak after his lone pro loss.
Ritson has gotten some world-class sparring heading into this fight through his work with the well regarded WBA and IBF light-welterweight champion Josh Taylor.
Ritson’s keeping his nose to the grindstone knowing how much a win over an established fighter like Vazquez will do to bolster his resume.
They were due to fight in April, but on Saturday night Lewis Ritson faces former world champion Miguel Vazquez live on Sky Sports.
A few months ago, Eddie Hearn suggested this bout could be a “big banana skin” for Ritson💥🥊 #boxing #RitsonVazquezpic.twitter.com/dcDDOTc2zU

Ritson’s last bout saw him defeat his rival Robbie Davies Jr via unanimous decision in a fight of the year caliber bout.
That win proved his ability at the European level but, now Lewis Ritson looks to continue his incremental advancing towards more international notoriety.
Miguel Vazquez’s Path Back to a World Title
Miguel Vazquez is the former IBF world lightweight champion and logged six successful defenses of his crown across a four-year reign between 2010 and 2014.
The veteran of violence has over fifty pro bouts now and seems to be in the waning years of his career.
Vazquez has posted up a 4-4 record across his fights over the last three years. His last outing saw him secure a fifth-round TKO over journeyman Jesus Miguel Velasco who has lost fifty percent of his pro fights overall.

These 140 pounders are at a true crossroads moment in their respective careers.
This is the biggest test Ritson has faced and would be a great scalp for him to claim should he get his desired outcome. Conversely, Vazquez has a chance to reaffirm to any doubters out there that he’s still world champion caliber.
Ritson’s 60 percent overall knockout rate coupled with Vazquez’s durability (only stopped twice across nine career defeats) leads me to believe that this one goes the full twelve rounds.
Ritson vs Vazquez Tale of the Tape
20-1 | Record | 42-9 |
12 | Knockouts | 16 |
5’10 | Height | 5’10 |
70″ | Reach | 72″ |
Robbie Davies Jr, Marek Jedrzejewski, German Argentino Benitez | Significant Wins | Denis Shafikov, Mercito Gesta, Marvin Quintero |
Orthodox | Stance | Orthodox |
Ritson has made his world title aspirations clear and he’s very much looking for a quick turnaround, world title bid. This is not some far fetched goal by any means as Ritson is presently ranked at #2 by the WBA in his given division.
In the end, I see Lewis Ritson emerging with the decision victory.
Pick: Lewis Ritson (-900)
Main Card Picks for Ritson vs Vazquez
- Rylan Charlton vs Joe Laws: Both of these pugilists are unbeaten as professionals and have faced a relatively similar level of competition so far. I edge it to the latter though and think Laws gets it done here via decision. Pick: Joe Laws (-270)
- Marc Leach vs Qais Ashfaq: Ashfaq has faced the superior opposition and I think that will shine through in this fight here. I foresee Qais Ashfaq winning on points. Pick: Qais Ashfaq (-769)
- Thomas Essomba vs Thomas Patrick Ward: Considering his 4 stoppages across 29 wins, Ward gets the victory via decision this weekend. Pick: Thomas Patrick Ward (-1600)
