Egidijus Kavaliauskas and Mikael Zewski will sling leather inside the bubble at the MGM Grand on Saturday, September 12th. Kavaliauskas vs Zewski will broadcast on ESPN+.
The WBO NABO welterweight and vacant WBC Continental Americas welterweight titles are up for grabs in this one.
This is a crossroads fight for both men as Kavaliauskas looks to validate that he’s world champion caliber and Zewski hopes to claim the most notable win of his career as he ascends into the top tier level of his weight class.
Egidijus Kavaliauskas vs Mikael Zewski Main Card Odds
Fighter | Odds |
---|---|
Mikael Zewski | +340 |
Egidijus Kavaliauskas | -420 |
Fighter | Odds |
Joet Gonzalez | -185 |
Miguel Marriaga | +165 |
Odds as of September 9th
After Mikael Zewski’s lone career loss to then 27-0 Konstantin Ponomarev in May 2015, he has put together an eight-fight win streak which he carries with him into this weekend’s fight.
Conversely, Kavaliauskas is looking to right the ship as he began his career at 21-0 before his recent stretch where he hasn’t secured a win in close to two years.
Egidijus Kavaliauskas’ Path Back to a World Title
Kavaliauskas’ last outing saw him taste defeat for the first time as a pro when he fell short against pound for pound phenom Terence Crawford.
It was an inspired outing against Crawford despite the loss, and cleansed the proverbial palates of boxing fans after Mean Machine‘s March 2019 draw to Ray Robinson.
This is the first fight of the calendar year for both men and it’s a quality event with multiple consequential bouts set to take place.

Zewski’s Greatest Challenge in the Ring
Zewski has carved our his name competing in front of his Canadian compatriots, but the Quebec native is looking to bolster that name even further on a global level.
After collecting multiple titles (NABF, WBC international, WBO NABO, and IBF North American belts all in the welterweight division), he is ready to step up to that world championship level.

Both men have slugger proclivities so this one could very well turn into a “bite down on the mouthpiece and drop bombs” kind of fight.
That being said, both also have tremendous amateur pedigrees so they have an excellent fight IQ and sense of ringcraft to underscore their warrior ferocity.
Each pugilist has a notable enough knockout rate and considering the high stakes nature of this bout, I think both will be looking for that highlight reel stoppage.
Kavaliauskas vs Zewski Tale of the Tape
21-1-1 | Record | 34-1 |
17 | Knockouts | 23 |
5’9 | Height | 5’10 |
71″ | Reach | 70″ |
Juan Carlos Abreu, David Avanesyan, Mahonri Montes | Significant Wins | Alejandro Davila, Abner Lopez, Diego Gonzalo Luque |
Orthodox | Stance | Orthodox |
This one is scheduled for ten rounds but I do not see the judges factoring into the decision of this prizefight.
I think Kavaliauskas will secure the stoppage victory inside of seven rounds.
Pick: Egidijus Kavaliauskas (-420)
Main Card Picks for Kavaliauskas vs Zewski
- Joet Gonzalez vs Miguel Marriaga: Marriaga is a former multi-time world title challenger with those title bids representing the only three losses on his record. Gonzalez was previously 23-0 before losing a world title fight last October to Shakur Stevenson. This is a bit of a crossroads fight too but it also reads to me like an effort to get Gonzalez back into the win column. I see Gonzalez winning via stoppage inside of seven rounds. Pick: Joet Gonzalez (-185)
