David Benavidez and Roamer Alexis Angulo will collide at Mohegan Sun Casino in Uncasville, Connecticut. The WBC world super-middleweight title is up for grabs and it will broadcast on Showtime. Angulo is ranked #15 by the WBC and fittingly he will be competing on the 15th. #1 ranked Avni Yildirim was initially scheduled for the bout but an injury resulted in Angulo being presented with an opportunity. He stepped up and now the boxing world at large has another great fight to look forward to on Saturday night.

Roamer Alexis Angulo’s World Title Bid
Don’t get overly caught up in the rankings gap here between the two. Angulo is not someone to be slept on and he can easily spoil the party for Benavidez if the champ gets lackadaisical at all. Roamer Alexis Angulo’s last outing saw him capture the WBO latino super-middleweight title when he beat Anthony Sims Jr in January 2020. The split decision victory was a notable upset and put Angulo’s stock up in a big way. He took Sims Jr’s momentum and rode his own wave towards a crack at the world championship.
Intriguing 3-fight card this Saturday:
🥊Heavyweight battle between Wallin & Kauffman.
🥊KO artist Rolly Romero takes a big step up in competition.

The 168 lb division is quite an intriguing one at the elite level with names like Caleb Plant, Gennady Golovkin, and Canelo Alvarez occupying that space. The winner of Benavidez vs Angulo jettisons themselves into that rarified air. They will enter the conversation in a pronounced way.
David Benavidez Seeks Third Successful Title Defense
David Benavidez is now a two-time world titlist at the tender of age of 23. Benavidez comes from a rich lineage of pugilists. This fighting family includes brother Jose Jr who is a former title challenger and father Jose Sr who trains him. Benavidez returns to action after close to eleven months outside of the ring. The WBC world champion knocked out Anthony Dirrell in the ninth round of their title fight in late September of last year. A victory here likely propels Benavidez towards the kind of big box office matchup that boxing enthusiasts are clamoring for.

Though Benavidez has a commendable knockout rate (86 percent), he’s not a guy that chases for the finish. He is a patient, composed pugilist who makes incredibly savvy decisions to set up openings. Then Benavidez turns the lights out on his adversary once the opportunity eventually presents itself. Angulo is right up there too though and is just a hair off from Benavidez’s stoppage percentile. With Roamer Alexis Angulo’s 85 percent knockout rate considered, this fight seems almost impossible to be a boring affair.
Benavidez vs Angulo Tale of the Tape
22-0 | Record | 26-1 |
19 | Knockouts | 22 |
6’1.5 | Height | 6’1 |
77″ | Reach | 75″ |
Anthony Dirrell, J’Leon Love, Ronald Gavril | Significant Wins | Anthony Sims Jr, Reinaldo Gonzalez, Evert Bravo |

Ultimately, I foresee Angulo taking his second pro defeat. I think Benavidez secures the stoppage victory inside of eight rounds.
Pick: David Benavidez (-750)
