Odds taken July 29th
August 1st is going to be a stacked day for quality boxing. Cheeseman has gone winless across his last three with a pair of unanimous decision losses bookending a draw. He has a chance here to get back to the form he had when going undefeated across his first 15 pro bouts. Cheeseman has captured WBA International and BBBofC British super welterweight belts. This is also his first fight of 2020.
Sam Eggington’s First Title Defense
Eggington has captured British, Commonwealth, and European titles as a professional. This will also be his first bout of the calendar year. He has won his last four with two back-to-back stoppage victories in his last couple of prizefights. Eggington will be defending his IBF hardware in this bout.

Cheeseman has the defined size advantage heading into this with the more natural 154 pound frame. Eggington is a tremendous fighter but the bulk of his successes have been at 147 pounds.
Cheeseman seems to see the size difference as something that will play heavily into the fight. He foresees a performance where he can really lean on Eggington, bully the smaller man, and utilize more powerful punching throughout.

It’s a career crossroads for both of these individuals. A win for Eggington proves this is his new division and could jettison him towards a title eliminator.
For Cheeseman, it’s a moment where he can get things back on track or be relegated to pugilistic purgatory. This will be a good one but I see Cheeseman winning via stoppage inside of nine rounds.
Pick: Ted Cheeseman (-500)
Main Card Picks for Eggington vs Cheeseman
- Dalton Smith vs Nathan Bennett: Smith’s last few wins are via TKO, he’s undefeated as a pro, and I see him going 6-0. Smith gets the stoppage win inside of four rounds. Pick: Dalton Smith (-1400)
- Fabio Wardley vs Simon Vallily: Wardley has seven stoppage wins across his 8-0 record. This is the next logical step for Fabio Wardley who wins this via (T)KO inside of three rounds. Pick: Fabio Wardley (-1400)
- Jordan Gill vs Reece Bellotti: This is one of the more evenly matched fights on the card and it’s reflected in the odds for this bout. Ultimately Gill gets the win via unanimous decision. Pick: Jordan Gill (-400)
- James Tennyson vs Gavin Gwynne: Tennyson’s present streak of four (T)KOs will extend to five this weekend. He gets the stoppage win inside of seven rounds. Pick: James Tennyson (-500)
