- Three road teams are favored entering Week 3 of the XFL regular season
- Are they going to flip the script? Road teams are 2-6 straight up through the first two weeks of the season
- Which road teams are worth backing in Week 3? All of this week’s lines are below
The last two unbeaten teams in the XFL are taking their show on the road during Week 3, and both are strongly favored to remain unscathed.
The East Division-leading DC Defenders (2-0) are seven-point favorites as they hit the left coast to face the winless Los Angeles Wildcats.
The 2-0 Houston Roughnecks, atop the West Division, come to the Florida sunshine to tackle the winless Tampa Bay Vipers. The Roughnecks are six-point chalk in this game.
A third road team, the 1-1 Dallas Renegades, are also favored as they trek to Seattle to face the 1-1 Dragons. Dallas is a 4.5-point pick in this game.

How Many Road Favorites Are Too Many?
The old theory in sports betting is that a home underdog is always a good play. In Week 1 of the XFL season, the New York Guardians won outright over the Vipers as a 2.5-point home dog.
The Seattle Dragons also won as a home underdog in Week 2. They covered at +2.5 while beating the Vipers.
Here’s the problem – two weeks into the season, the only road favorite to lose is the Vipers. And Tampa Bay is home this week for the first time in the season.

Both the Defenders and Roughnecks are seeing their first road action of the season. And the Dallas Renegades won as a road favorite last week at LA.
It wouldn’t be unexpected in the least to see all three of those teams winning on the road this week.
Dragons No Easy Slay
At the outset of the season, coach Jim Zorn’s Seattle Dragons were being dogged as perhaps the worst team in the XFL. But so far, they’ve shown some spunk.
Covering as a home underdog in Week 2 by beating the Vipers, the Dragons showed that they won’t be easily slain. A home underdog again this week as they welcome the Renegades, getting 4.5 points makes Seattle a solid wager.

Dallas was the early favorite to be the team to beat in the XFL. But without injured QB Landry Jones, the Renegades stumbled at home in Week 1 and lost to the St. Louis BattleHawks.
Jones was back under center last week against the Wildcats but the Renegades still looked out of sync. The former Pittsburgh Steeler threw for 305 yards but Jones was picked off twice in the 25-18 victory. Dallas turned the ball over three times during the game.
Seattle looks like the best underdog play in Week 3.
Time To Fade The Vipers
Off to an 0-2 start, there still seems to be a glimmer of belief in Tampa Bay amongst the oddsmakers. The Vipers are listed at +1000 to win the XFL championship.
The eye test suggests that it’s time to fade the Vipers. Two games into the season, Tampa Bay is the only XFL team that hasn’t scored an offensive touchdown.

Taylor Cornelius had 13 in his only season starting at Ok. State.

Taylor Cornelius, the third QB to play for Tampa Bay in two games, posted a passer rating of 44.4 in Sunday’s 17-9 loss to Seattle.
You’ll want to get some money down on Houston early in the week in this game, because the spread figures to grow further in favor of the Roughnecks.
Best Bet Of The Week
The DC Defenders, the +190 chalk to win the XFL title, posted the first shutout in XFL history during Week 2. They’ve dominated both opponents so far, winning by an average margin of 19 points. Including his college days at Ohio State, Defenders QB Cardale Jones is 13-0 in his career as a starter.
Hitting the the road for the first time, DC will roll over the most dysfunctional team in the league.

Individually, the Wildcats might be the most talented squad in the league. However, there’s reports of unrest and disarray within the LA locker room. One week into the season, the Wildcats fired defensive coordinator Pepper Johnson and jettisoned defensive captain Anthony Johnson.
Johnson landed in DC, where he posted 1.5 sacks and two tackles for losses in his Defenders debut. Think he might be a little bit fired up coming back to LA?
