- A technological glitch with a mobile-phone app left Democratic results from Monday’s Iowa caucus unreported
- As a result, Donald Trump’s odds to win re-election as President improved from -162 to -166
- The odds of the GOP winning the 2020 election went from -165 to -169
What started out Monday as the Democratic Iowa caucus finished the day as the Iowa carcass.
There were problems with an app designed to streamline the reporting of results from Monday’s official launch of the battle for the Democratic Presidential nomination. That resulted in the announcement of the Iowa Caucus outcome being postponed.
However, there may be more far-reaching consequences over this latest failure from the Democrats. While it was only slight movement, separate betting lines showed an increase in the likelihood that the Republicans and incumbent Donald Trump will retain the White House in the 2020 election odds.
On average across the leading sportsbooks, Trump’s odds of re-election went from -162 to -166. One sportsbook has Trump as -130 chalk, and that’s the worst his odds are at any site.

Where Iowa Caucus Went Wrong
Iowa Democratic Party were cautioned that allowing a startup company to employ untested technology during the Iowa caucus was a disaster waiting to happen. It turns out the app enjoyed about as much success as people do when trying to pronounce Buttigieg.
Some precincts were unable to log in to the system. Others discovered that when they did access the app, the numbers reported weren’t the same digits as the numbers being captured by the app.

This is like fumbling the opening kickoff of the Super Bowl in your own end zone and giving the opposition an easy touchdown. The optics this supplies to the nation are mind boggling.
If the Democrats can’t run an election in one of the smaller American states, how can they be trusted to be put in charge of the largest economy in the free world?
Trump Quick To Pounce
Thrown a softball right down the middle of the plate, Trump was quick to ascend to his social media bully pulpit and hammer the Democrats out of the park.
The Democrat Caucus is an unmitigated disaster. Nothing works, just like they ran the Country. Remember the 5 Billion Dollar Obamacare Website, that should have cost 2% of that. The only person that can claim a very big victory in Iowa last night is “Trump”.

You know what? In this case, he’s on point. You can’t argue with Trump.
The Democrats have no one to blame for this epic opening disaster than themselves.
Trump wins the Republican Iowa caucus by 96.5% to 3% – with 100% backing for the president in some counties #IowaCaucuses

While the Democrats are scratching their heads over their latest failure, Trump is emboldened, He heads to the New Hampshire primary after winning over 96 percent of the votes in the Republican Iowa caucus.
This Doesn’t Bode Well For Democrats
Legendary American humorist Will Rogers once famously noted that he didn’t belong to any organized party. He was a Democrat.
That was a century ago, and it still holds true today.
The Iowa caucus mess was the latest faux pas in a week that saw speculation of John Kerry making a late bid for the nomination, which he denied. There’s increasing evidence of fragmenting and fracturing within the party.
2020 Presidential Election: Party To Win
Party | Odds |
---|---|
Democrat | +110 |
Republican | -145 |
At a time when Democrats need to be laser-focused on their objective of defeating Trump, they can’t seem to get out of their own way.
Once again, the Democrats looked poised to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.
Following the Iowa fiasco, at this point, the winning bet in the 2020 election is Trump.
Pick: Donald Trump (-130)
