Following yet another stellar performance in Kansas City’s 35-24 victory over the Tennessee Titans in Sunday’s AFC Championship Game, Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes has rocketed to a +115 favorite in the Super Bowl MVP odds.

Mahomes Looking Unstoppable
Mahomes was a +140 bet in the hours following Sunday’s win over Tennessee and quickly got even shorter. Mahomes carried over his dominating play from last weekend’s historic 51-31 victory over the Houston Texans, tossing for 294 yards and three touchdowns, while adding a game-high 53 rushing yards and one TD run to lead the Chiefs to their first Super Bowl berth in 50 years.
Mahomes is the new Brady. Biggest plus for him right now is there is no Peyton Manning around his own age to challenge him. (I don’t buy Lamar, Deshaun or Jimmy G as long range anywhere near his equal.) If he stays healthy, he’s poised for a long reign of dominance.

With nine total playoff touchdowns, Mahomes’ climb to the top of the Super Bowl MVP odds comes as little surprise. Listed as a +500 second-favorite behind Lamar Jackson at the close of the NFL regular season, Mahomes has drawn comparisons to four-time Super Bowl MVP Tom Brady during this year’s sensational playoff performance. And for sports bettors loyal to the Chiefs in their upcoming Super Bowl 54 matchup with the San Francisco 49ers at Hard Rock Stadium on Sunday, February 2, a wager on Mahomes offers more value than betting on Kansas City’s moneyline odds, where the team is pegged as -120 chalk.
Garoppolo Tops List of 49ers MVP Candidates
Fans of the San Francisco 49ers are left with a far less definitive choice in the Super Bowl MVP odds. Quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo trails Mahomes as a +195 bet after guiding the 49ers to a decisive 37-20 victory over Green Bay as 8-point home favorites in Sunday’s NFC Championship clash.

Garoppolo has been far less prolific under center in his first two career playoff appearances as a starter. With the Niners ground game leading the attack, Garoppolo attempted just eight passes in Sunday’s victory over the Packers, connecting six times for 77 yards, and has amassed just 208 total passing yards and one touchdown in the postseason.
However, both Garoppolo and Mahomes have history on their side, with quarterbacks accounting for nine of the past 13 Super Bowl MVP winners, and 29 overall in the 53-year history of the Big Game.
Mostert on the Rise Following Career Performance
With the Niners ground game dominating, bettors can find better value further down the Super Bowl MVP odds board. Coming off the biggest performance of his career, Raheem Mostert sits third in the odds as a +600 wager. The 49ers running back piled up 220 yards and four TDs in Sunday’s win over Green Bay, and has now scored at least one touchdown in seven of eight outings.

The 49ers and Mostert face a massive challenge to duplicate their stellar effort on the ground against the Chiefs rush defense, which effectively stopped Derrick Henry, limiting the Titans rusher to just 69 yards and one score in the AFC Championship Game.
Can Chiefs Receivers Outshine Mahomes?
While it is the 49ers who dominate the top of the Super Bowl MVP honors after Mahomes, with Mostert followed by tight end George Kittle at +1200 and defensive end Nick Bosa at +1800, there is no shortage of Chiefs offering value. The best options are receivers Tyreek Hill and Sammy Watkins, and tight end Travis Kelce.
Hill is an intriguing dark horse at +2800. The 25-year-old compiled 860 yards and seven TDs despite missing four games to injury this season, and scored twice in Sunday’s win over the Titans. The Chiefs leader in receiving yards during the regular season, Kelce’s three-TD performance in the team’s win over the Texans has contributed to his solid +2000 odds. However, Kelce was targeted on just four occasions against the Titans.

Watkins struggled badly during the regular season after opening the campaign with three scores in Kansas City’s 40-26 win over Jacksonville in Week 1, failing to find the end zone for the rest of the season until making a spectacular 60-yard scoring catch on Sunday that put the game out of reach for the Chiefs.
But while any one of the three Kansas City downfield threats are capable of busting the game wide open, all three face the challenge of turning in big performances and outshining the man getting the ball to them.
Niners Sport Top Defensive Candidates
Accordingly, possibly the biggest challenge in Mahomes’ bid to take home Super Bowl MVP honors comes from the two defensive players on the odds board. Bosa was key to the team’s success at shutting down the Packers, recording four tackles and one sack, lifting the rookie to a +1800 bet.

Veteran cornerback Richard Sherman brings the experience of two previous Super Bowl appearances to this year’s big game, and sports attractive +6000 odds to earn MVP honors for the first time. However, it has been 24 years since a cornerback was last named Super Bowl MVP, back in Super Bowl XXX, when Larry Brown made a pair of second-half interceptions in the Dallas Cowboys 27-17 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Pick: Patrick Mahomes +115
