- The odds that US President Donald Trump will be impeached have gone from -135 to -210
- Odds that Trump won’t be impeached worsened from +105 to +155
- Is the yes or the no on this prop better value at this stage of the impeachment inquiry?
Death, taxes, and US President Donald Trump will be impeached. Name three things that you can be certain will be happening this year.
The chances that Trump won’t be impeached grow weaker every day. Testimony before the US House of Representatives continues in the Trump impeachment hearings. With each person to testify, the hole that Trump is in grows deeper. Meanwhile, the odds he’ll be able to climb out from under the weight of evidence piling up against him lessens.
This reality is being reflected in the Trump impeachment odds being offered by sportsbooks. Odds of -210 on the House impeaching Trump are offered. That works out to a 67.7 chance that he’ll end up facing impeachment.
In mid-October, the odds of his impeachment were only -135.
Odds President Donald Trump Is Impeached
Outcome | Odds |
---|---|
Yes | -210 |
No | +155 |
Odds taken November 19th.
It should be noted that this betting market is only taking into account whether Trump will be impeached by the House. It does not involve whether he’ll be convicted in the Senate.
The Evidence Is Mounting
Four more people were giving testimony before the House Impeachment Hearing on Tuesday. Each one either added evidence that Trump in fact threatened to withhold Congressionally-approved military aid from Ukraine if that country didn’t agree to open an investigation into Hunter Biden.
The son of Democratic Presidential candidate Joe Biden previously worked for a Ukrainian gas company.
My Republican colleagues argue that aid is held up all the time, for all sorts of reasons.
I asked Volker and Morrison if they had ever seen military aid withheld because a president wanted investigations into a political rival.

Morrison: "No" pic.twitter.com/5iCFYYFhcu— Adam Schiff (@RepAdamSchiff) November 20, 2019
Tuesday, for the first time, tape of the call between Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy was playing during the hearing. Lt Col Alexander Vindman, the top Ukraine adviser on the National Security Council, was on the call.
Vindman testified that he knew immediately that he’d be reporting what he’d heard to White House counsel.
Republican Witness Backfires
Republicans requested the testimony of former Ukraine special envoy Kurt Volker. If they were supposing that this would be helping Trump’s case, it ended up backfiring loudly.
Volker testified that Republicans are attempting to build their case around conspiracy theories that were long ago debunked.
By shaking down a foreign country to help his campaign and interfere in our elections, Trump abused the power of his office and put our national security in danger.

In fact, instead of offering exculpatory evidence capable of exonerating Trump, Republicans have spent their time attempting to discredit witnesses. Often, that type of ploy is something defense attorneys end up employing when they know that arguing the facts of a case is fruitless.
All Roads Leading Toward Trump Impeachment
Republicans are painting the attempt to extort Ukraine as being masterminded by Rudy Giuliani, Trump’s personal lawyer, or Gordon Sondland, the US Ambassador to the EU. Both Volker and Timothy Morrison, the National Security Council’s Senior Director for Europe and Russia, ended up debunking that effort.

Morrison and Volker each testified that Sondland was in regular contact with Trump. Three witnesses confirmed hearing Trump personally request in his July call with Zelenskiy that he launch an investigation of Joe Biden in coordination with Giuliani.
It’s Only Going To Get Worse
Sondland is due to testify on Wednesday. He’s already acknowledging advising a Zelenskiy aide that no military aid would be delivered to Ukraine until an investigation of Biden was announced.
Earlier this month, the House voted 232 to 196 to make the impeachment investigation formal. However, there was no Republican support. Two Democrats joined Republicans in opposing the impeachment inquiry.
Schiff closes with this: "When the Founding Fathers provided a remedy, that remedy being impeachment, they had the very concern that POTUS may betray the national security interests of the country for personal interests … they wanted a powerful anti-corruption mechanism." pic.twitter.com/33YjUSXLsc

Certainly, those numbers aren’t going to change much, if at all.
As a result, Trump is going to be impeached. If you haven’t bet on it yet, you should.
