Bruins Cooling Off Following Torrid Start?
Boston opened the campaign on a tear, suffering just one loss in regulation over its first 14 contests, but has shown signs of cooling off after falling to defeat in each of the team’s past two outings.
The Bruins suffered a stunning 4-2 loss as -250 road chalk in Friday night’s Atlantic Division clash with the last-place Detroit Red Wings after failing to keep pace with the steadily improving Montreal Canadiens in a 5-4 defeat at Bell Centre on Tuesday night, marking the first time the club has suffered losses in regulation in consecutive games since March.

The Boston defense has shown signs of cracks in recent outings. The Bruins surrendered just 20 total goals through their first 10 games of the season, but have now allowed 13 over their past three contests, with Tuukka Rask getting tagged for eight goals on just 62 total shots in their two recent losses.

However, the Bruins have been steady on home ice so far this season, posting six straight victories to improve their record to 7-0-1. While Boston has struggled to shut down opposing shooters on the road, they have filled the net on home ice, potting 5.33 goals per game over their past three contests while surrendering just 1.88 goals per game.
Halak Looks to Extend Personal Home Win Streak
With Rask struggling, Jaroslav Halak is expected to get the call between the pipes for Boston on Sunday night. The 34-year-old veteran has been steady in relief this season, going 4-1-1 in six starts, and has been particularly impressive in recent starts on home ice, leading Boston to wins in each of his past seven since last January, including a pair of home victories this season.
Halak also backstopped the Bruins to a 3-0 victory in October 2018 in his only previous home start against Flyers since joining the club, and has not suffered a regulation loss to the Flyers on home ice in six career starts dating back to February 2010 as a member of the Montreal Canadiens.

While the Bruins tandem have complemented each other well this season, secondary scoring remains a major concern for the club. David Pastrnak has been outstanding while climbing to the top of the NHL scoring race, and rides a 14-game points streak into Sunday’s contests. However, he joins Brad Marchand and Patrice Bergeron as the only three Bruins players that have potted more than three goals so far this season.
Flyers Ride Win Streak into Beantown
Pegged as +185 underdogs, the Flyers arrive in Boston on a high after taking down the Toronto Maple Leafs in a 3-2 shootout win on Saturday night. With the victory as +150 underdogs, the Flyers are now poised to win four in a row for the first time since early February, and have been rewarded for their efforts on the NHL futures, vaulting to a +850 bet in the odds to win the Metropolitan Division after trailing at a lengthy +2200 as recently as October 29.
