The Blues have climbed to the top of the Central Division standings during their current surge, three points up on second-place Nashville, and now trail only Vegas and Colorado as a +500 wager to repeat as Western Conference champions. St. Louis’ recent victories have come by the narrowest of margins, with the club eking out one-goal wins in each of their past five games, and each of their past three contests getting settled in overtime.

However, the past two meetings between these two clubs have been far from close. The Blues marched to a decisive 7-2 victory as -220 home chalk when the Oilers visited them back in March. That followed a 4-1 victory in Edmonton last December that rewarded sports bettors taking the Blues as +130 underdogs, and lifted St. Louis to 2-1-0 in its past three road dates with the Oilers.

Goaltender Jordan Binnington has been key to the club’s success of late, stopping 95 of the 100 total shots he has faced over his past three outings, and limiting opponents to two or fewer goals on five occasions while earning a winning decision in six of his past seven starts. Binnington has struggled at times on the road this season, cobbling together a 3-2-1 record over six starts, with a 2.80 goals-against average and .912 save percentage that pales in comparison to far more impressive numbers compiled on home ice (5-0-2, 2.11, .930).

However, after Binnington got the start in Vancouver on Tuesday, the Blues look likely to go with Jake Allen between the pipes in Edmonton. Allen sports a 2-1-0 record but has struggled at times, allowing 11 total goals over his three starts.

Draisaitl, McDavid Continue to Carry Oilers Offense

That’s welcome news for the Oilers, who hit the ice on Wednesday perched as -150 home chalk. The Oilers are coming off a 3-2 overtime loss to the visiting Arizona Coyotes as narrow -115 home favorites on Monday night, and are now winless in their past two contests at Rogers Place. And while Edmonton has earned at least a point in each of its past three outings, offensive production remains a massive concern for this club.

The Oilers have tallied just 11 total goals over their past five contests, and that production continues to come primarily from the duo of Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl. The duo combined to score six of the team’s 11 markers over the past five games, and along with James Neal have combined to score 31 of the club’s 45 total goals this season, with no other Oiler shooter tallying more than three goals.

That lack of secondary scoring could emerge as a real problem for the Oilers on Tuesday considering the struggles that McDavid, Draisaitl, and Neal have historically faced finding the back of the net against St. Louis. McDavid and Draisaitl have scored just four total career goals in 23 combined appearances against the Blues, while Neal has scored just five total goals over 22 dates with St. Louis since 2011.
