Overwatch League Season 2 Grand Finals Odds & Pick: Vancouver Titans vs SF Shock

Season 2 of the Overwatch League comes to an end on September 29th as the Vancouver Titans battle the San Francisco Shock in the Grand Finals.

These two teams also met in the finals of the stage 1 and stage 2 playoffs, with each team coming out on top once.

The Loser’s Run of a Life-time

For a moment it looked like the San Francisco Shock would drop out of the playoffs early. In the very first round, the Shock lost to the Atlanta Reign, setting them up for a long and tenuous journey to the Grand Finals. Well, I guess it wasn’t that tenuous. They defeated the London Spitfire, Los Angeles Gladiators, Hangzhou Spark and the New York Excelsior to earn their spot in Philadelphia. And they did it by defeating all of their opponents by a 4-0 scoreline.

It’s not ordinarily the case where the team coming from the losers’ side is considered the favorite. However, the team has won 16 straight maps against the very best teams in the Overwatch League. With their recent history of domination, you’d be hard pressed to bet against them.

The main concern is that it’ll have been two weeks since their last match by the time Sunday rolls around, and hopefully they haven’t cooled off from their insanely hot losers’ run.

Regular Season Titans

Vancouver may not have a bunch of sweeps in the playoffs like the Shock, but they’ve been the consistent dominant team for all of Season 2. Over all four stages of Season 2, the Titans have a 25-3 record which puts them easily in first place. It’s hard to believe that this team is considered the underdog heading to the Grand Finals. Their playoff run wasn’t filled with sweeps like their Grand Finals opponents, but they still took down the Dynasty, Gladiators, and Excelsior in succession.

The last time that Vancouver and San Fran faced off was in the final week of Stage four during the Los Angeles Valiant’s homestand. As per usual between these two teams, the match was incredibly close and had to go to a decider game five where the Shock would eventually win on the control map of Busan.

Shock has been able to easily push aside all of their opposition, but historically, the Vancouver Titans have given them fits. This won’t be another sweep. With two weeks to prepare, I expect the Titans to have some answers to put a stop to the perfection of the Shock. With that said, when they’re playing in form, it looks like no-one can come close to the skill level of San Francisco.
