This fight between the promotion’s most successful 155-pounders has been a long time coming. Both for a lightweight champion to be crowned and also for these men to be recognized by being given this magnitude of an opportunity.

Garcia Stays Unbeaten and Collects Gold

While Gonzalez has a slight experience edge and is a bit more well rounded, Rafa Garcia has the superior momentum and stronger resume bolstered by victories over names like Estevan Payan and LaRue Burley. Gonzalez has wins over solid fighters but no real notable names on the level of Garcia’s wins.

Gonzalez sees Garcia using his hyper-aggressive submission attack in this fight, as Garcia becomes rabid when he gets a hold of a limb as evidenced by the rate of submissions he’s been able to secure in prior outings.

Chairez is 4-1 in Combate and rebounded from his lone loss with a first round arm-bar win in his last fight. Trujillo conversely has suffered his only career loss and it happened the last time he walked to the cage.

It looks like Chairez will have a big reach advantage. Though the stats on his actual reach were unavailable he has a five-inch height advantage over Trujillo. This will lend itself well to both striking and grappling exchanges as those kinds of sequences generally favors the fighter with the bigger frame.
