- After officially withdrawing from the Cincinnati Open, Andreescu will compete in the US Open as her next major tournament
Bianca Andreescu is just 19-years old, and in the past week has won over all of Canada. The Canadian hoisted the Rogers Cup trophy after Serena Williams retired from their finals match just 16 minutes in. With that win, Andreescu is now ranked No. 14. A far cry from her 152 ranking in January, also making her the highest female ranked teenager in the world.

It’s Just the Beginning
It’s fairly obvious that Andreescu has realized what she’s done after the Rogers Cup. It’s the first time in 50 years a female Canadian has won the tournament, and against Serena Willams for that matter. But it seems that she’s just gotten a taste of what it feels like, and what she can do in the tennis world.

Will Andresscu ever be ranked No.1? If she continues to play at the level she is playing at, with the focus and determination, probably. But by the end of 2020 might be pushing it. What will be a big factor in whether or not that could happen, will be the US Open at the end of the month, and her showing at the tournament.

Bianca Andreescu has played in all four Grand Slams, The Australian Open, The French Open, Wimbledon, and The US Open, at least once. The way the Canadian is playing right now, the opportunity is there. The reality is, the draw for the upcoming US Open is wide-open, and her momentum and confidence could take her all the way in this one.
But with No. 1 flipping back and forth between Naomi Osaka and Ashleigh Barty, Simona Halep always hanging around on top, Kiki Bartens defending titles, now more than ever Bianca has the ability to break through.
Andreescu didn’t make it to No. 14 without defeating some heavy hitters, including going 7-0 against top 10 opponents this season.
Again, this year’s US Open is going to be huge in determining the next little bit for Andreescu. She’s had a tough year with injury and she was pretty taped up during the Rogers Cup, and did take a medical timeout. But the 19-year old is definitely moving on up, and she’s proving she’s here to stay. It’s just a matter of how quickly it’ll all come for her, not if.
