- Manny Pacquiao’s next opponent has been a water cooler topic since the weekend
- Will Errol Spence Jr get the nod to fight the multi-division world champion?
- Will Amir Khan fight Pacman the next time out?
Manny Pacquiao has set the sports world on fire with his performance over the weekend. The 40-year-old champion turned back the clock and handed Keith Thurman his first loss as a pro.
In the wake of Pacman’s amazing W, many are wondering what’s next. A lot of viable names have been popping up that are relevant members of the division’s upper echelon. The odds table below outlines many of the names on the minds of the oddsmakers as well as the pugilistic public at large.
Manny Pacquiao’s Next Opponent Odds
Fighter | Odds |
---|---|
Errol Spence Jr | -150 |
Amir Khan | +250 |
Shawn Porter | +300 |
Terence Crawford | +500 |
Mikey Garcia | +1200 |
Floyd Mayweather | +2000 |
Keith Thurman | +2000 |
Adrien Broner | +8000 |
Conor McGregor | +10000 |

Pacquiao’s win over Thurman jettisons himself to a place in the rankings where many pundits think he’ll be faced with near-impossible tasks.
Those tasks come in the form of Errol Spence Jr and pound for pound ranked/welterweight titlist Terence Crawford. Spence Jr has the advantage here of being Manny Pacquiao’s next opponent as PBC doesn’t even seem to want to acknowledge Crawford at all.
If you’re not going to include Terence Crawford here, which is absurd and disingenuous in its own right, why not just say “PBC welterweight division landscape” and then display titleholder under each fighter? https://t.co/OW96TJiN01

Conversely, Mikey Garcia and Amir Khan can be eliminated as Manny Pacquiao’s next opponent considering they’re coming off losses. Both will need W’s and some momentum before they campaign for a Pacman tilt.
The nature of Pacquiao’s win likely means a Mayweather rematch won’t happen. Floyd Mayweather is a fairly calculated, risk-averse fighter. There’s little incentive to fight Pacquaio coming off that caliber of a win especially considering Mayweather previously defeated Manny. Big money would need to be shelled out for May-Pac II.
Spence Jr vs Porter Winner in 2020
Despite the fervent talks around it, Pacman’s next bout is tentatively set for 2020. Manny has some political obligations tied to his public office status in the Philippines. This could time out well though when you consider the key fights coming up. The winner of the September 28th unification fight between Shawn Porter and Errol Spence Jr would likely want to fight next sometime next year.
This opponent would be in line with the kind of high-level opponents Manny has strived to fight the last few years. It remains to be seen if this can be a sustained effort though. Prior to his inspired win over Thurman, Pacquiao had some relatively unremarkable performances against Jeff Horn and Adrien Broner. Also, this aforementioned bout eliminates Broner as a contender for his next fight. All factors considered, I pick Errol Spence Jr as the most likely to be Manny Pacquiao’s next opponent.
Pick: Errol Spence Jr (-150)
