- Game of Thrones’ 32 Emmy nominations broke NYPD Blue’s previous record of 26 in 1994
- HBO has received 137 nominations at the Emmy’s in 2019, up from 108 in 2018
- Season 8 of Game of Thrones consisted of only 6 episodes and did not receive good fan feedback about the ending
Game of Thrones fans know with the end of series this year what an epic journey it was. Even for the casual fan who may not have seen all eight seasons, Season 8 was all over entertainment news and social media.

While the fan feedback wasn’t all positive on how the show ended, it is one of the most significant in the past decade.

The Great War against the Army of the Dead, and the Last War for control of the Iron Throne resolved with the end of the series. Winterfell armies went into intense combat against the Night King and his army of White Walkers and wights.
The war for the throne continues as well as Queen Daenerys Targaryen assaults King’s Landing in an attempt to unseat Queen Cersei Lannister as the ruler of the Seven Kingdoms.
Game of Thrones Helps HBO Dominate the Emmy’s
Game of Thrones has been nominated for 32 nominations this year. This is significant as HBO is often up against Netflix and the newer Amazon Prime as rivals for shows nominated at the Emmy’s. HBO’s total nomination count (137 nominations) was followed by Netflix (117), NBC (58), and Amazon Prime Video (47).
HBO had been outpaced by Netflix last year and has already begun to plan how keep up its dominance at the Emmy’s.

Brienne of Tarth Submits Her Own Emmy Nomination
It’s also interesting to note that three actors from Thrones, including Gwendoline Christie, who plays Brienne of Tarth, nominated themselves for Emmy’s when it didn’t look like they would receive one. Alfie Allen (Theon Greyjoy) and Carice van Houten (Melisandre) also received nominations as well. Actors who submit their own nominations must pay the $225 entry fee to have their nominations considered.

The Best Bet
With all the nominations and hype surrounding Game of Thrones, it’s not likely it will be able to win in all of these categories. Bet on it to finish with less than 19 Emmy’s.
