- Fury vs Peter goes down Friday, July 12th at 4:00 p.m. ET
- Can Fury bolster his record by beating a former champion?
- Will the veteran Peter notch another W under his belt?
Hughie Fury goes toe-to-toe with Samuel Peter on Friday, July 12th at King Abdullah Sports City in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. It’s an intriguing heavyweight bout that is a crossroads prize fight for each man.
Samuel Peter is a former WBC champion who had notable bouts with both Klitschko brothers in their primes. Fury is the cousin of lineal champion Tyson Fury and is rising through the ranks within British as well and has Intercontinental title wins to his credit. It’s a classic, rising prospect vs tenured veteran kind of fight. My breakdown can be found below.
Hughie Fury vs Samuel Peter Odds
Fighter | Odds |
---|---|
Hughie Fury | -9091 |
Samuel Peter | +1125 |
*Odds taken 07/09/19
Fury vs Peter might come down to consistency. Peter has only competed five times in the last eight years. The 24-year-old Fury has been much more active and has been doing it against relevant competition. Peter has had three fights in 2019, but they were against questionable opposition with losing records. The age also comes into play. Fury, who has yet to enter his prime, will be taking on a 38-year-old former champion in his waning years.
Peter has a notable KO rate, thrice dropped Wladimir Klitschko in a losing effort, and has held significant heavyweight titles.
Fury vs Peter is a big mismatch on paper but that’s no disrespect to Peter. Peter has a notable KO rate, thrice dropped Wladimir Klitschko in a losing effort, and has held significant heavyweight titles. Peter has taken a few high profile losses since and has been on noticeable decline in terms of his skill set, but also in his strength of schedule.
Fury vs Peter also might be able to provide on insights on what Fury’s ceiling is. Fury failed in his first world title bid against Joseph Parker and he believes he’s largely unheralded in terms of public perception versus the skills he actually has.

Fury is aiming to reach the heights of his cousin Tyson as the two have long wanted to reign over the heavyweight class much like the Klitschko brothers did before them. Hughie Fury has been calling for a name opponent, but many boxing pundits don’t think Peter will suffice. If Peter was a decade younger, there could be more competitive merit. The fight reads like an effort to build up Fury.

I analyzed the recent records of both and I see a later stoppage occurring in this 10 round bout. I see Fury finishing Peter inside of eight rounds via some form of TKO.
