Wimbledon is upon us, and so are the prop wagers. Sportsbooks have delivered a series of prop bets on the third event in the tennis Grand Slam, slated to start July 1st and run until July 14th at the All England Lawn Tennis Club.

Will a one seed reach a singles final? Is an American player going to win a title? These and other props are available for your wagering enjoyment.

One is the Loneliest Number

You have to go all way back to the 2016 women’s singles final, when Serena Williams beat Angelique Kerber, to find a no. 1  seed in a Wimbledon final.

The top seed in the men’s side this year is defending champion Novak Djokovic. He was also the last no. 1 seed to win the men’s singles title here. French Open champ Ashleigh Barty is seeded no. 1 among the women.

“Yes” is the play, in spite of recent history. Djokovic has reached four of the last six Wimbledon finals and will be on the opposite side of the draw as Roger Federer. Federer, an eight-time Wimbledon champion, was promoted from his #3 ranking to the #2 seed by the All England Lawn Tennis Club committee due to his historic greatness at the tournament.

Federer’s move up means no. 2-ranked Rafael Nadal moves down to the no. 3 seed. Djokovic and Nadal have split their four career grass-court matches, but Djokovic has won the last two, including a five-set thriller in the 2018 semis. Djokovic has won three of the last four Grand Slams.

Two for the Show

In the last nine women’s singles tournaments at Wimbledon, no second-seeded player has reached the final. In 2009, no. 2 seed Serena Williams was champion.

Two has proven a much healthier digit among the men. In 2016, second-seeded Andy Murray was champion. Five second seeds have been finalists since 2010.

Roger Federer and Naomi Osaka are the 2019 second seeds. Osaka has never been past the third round at the tournament.

Federer’s record-setting Wimbledon history is well known, but he’s also 37 years old now. This year, he holds just a 2-5 record against Nadal, Stefanos Tsitsipas, and Dominic Thiem.
