The 2019 Wimbledon Championship is just days away, running from July 1-14, 2019. One of the major questions on the men’s side is will anyone challenge the big three? Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal have won Wimbledon 14 of the last 16 years.

Now there’s a prop where you can bet all three versus the field. Which is the best bet?

Djokovic Has Dominated Majors

One of the issues with betting against the big three is you’re betting against Djokovic, who is the most likely player to win the tournament. He won last year and has been to at least the semifinals in seven of the last nine years.

In terms of recent grand slams, nobody has been better. He won three in a row (starting at Wimbledon last year) and his worst finish in the last four was a loss in the semis at the 2019 French Open.

If he had any injury concerns or any flaws in his game (he’s won 14 of his last 16 matches), I’d say there’s a sliver of hope someone takes him down. The way he’s playing right now, he’s very likely to win it all.

Federer Has Looked Crisp

We know that Federer is likely the most vulnerable of the big three trio. He’s 37 years old and is in the twilight of his career. At the same time, there are few players on the ATP Tour who are better than him or more consistent.

Federer has won 10 of his last 11 matches with the loss coming to Nadal at the French Open. That’s nothing to be ashamed of. Federer is also fresh off his record tenth tournament win at Halle, which is a Wimbledon warmup.

With Federer, it will depend on the draw and if he can get through his early matches with ease. The longer his early contests go, the more vulnerable he becomes later. Even so, he should make it to at least the quarterfinals.

Nadal Is Healthy

While there were some concerns about Nadal’s play earlier in the year, he’s put that to rest. This is a guy who has won each of the last two tournaments he’s played (French Open and Italian Open) and heads into Wimbledon on a 12-match winning streak.

More importantly, he’s just two grand slams shy of Federer, who currently holds the record with 20. He’ll be focused to close the gap. Grass isn’t his best surface but he’s still better than almost anyone else out there on it.

Odds to Win Without Dropping a Set

Will Djokovic, Nadal or Federer Drop a Set?

For the most part, I don’t really like this prop. Sure, there is a time like the French Open where I might bet on Nadal to pull this off but this one is hard to predict. All of them dropped sets in 2018, 2016, 2015, 2014, 2013, 2012, 2011, 2010, 2009, 2008 and 2007. I wouldn’t bet on them being perfect here.

Bet the Big Three

The greatest question is if it isn’t the big three, who is it? Sure, Kevin Anderson was a surprise finalist last year but Djokovic schooled him in straight sets. Marin Cilic surprised with a finals appearance in 2017 but he was also wiped clean in straight sets, this time by Roger Federer. Andy Murray won in 2016 but two of the big three played in the final in 2015 and 2014.

There just isn’t anyone that’s playing well enough to be a serious threat. Could a surprise happen? Of course. Injuries can become a factor and maybe somebody like Stefanos Tsitsipas or Milos Raonic gets hot. At the same time, the odds of that happening are quite low. Bet on the main prop for the big three to win it all.
