- The Jacksonville Jaguars made a bold move in NFL playoff odds
- The odds on the Jags making the playoffs went from +350 to +260
- Meanwhile, Jacksonville’s odds of missing the playoffs decreased from -500 to -350
Two years ago, the Jacksonville Jaguars were less than a quarter of play away from going to the Super Bowl.
Last season, they regressed to 5-11 and missed the playoffs, finishing last in the AFC South.
Sportsbooks think the Jaguars are on the rebound. In the sportsbook’s latest 2019 NFL playoff odds, Jacksonville has made a quantum leap up the ladder. The Jags were at +350 to make the postseason. Now, Jacksonville’s odds of being a playoff team are set at +260.
AFC Teams Odds Of Making 2019 NFL Playoffs
Team | “Yes” Odds | “No” Odds |
---|---|---|
Baltimore Ravens | +175 | -215 |
Cleveland Browns | -140 | +110 |
Cincinnati Bengals | n/a | n/a |
Denver Broncos | +350 | -500 |
Houston Texans | +150 | -180 |
Indianapolis Colts | -260 | +200 |
Jacksonville Jaguars | +260 | -350 |
Kansas City Chiefs | -500 | +350 |
Los Angeles Chargers | -225 | +185 |
Miami Dolphins | +1000 | -2500 |
New England Patriots | -800 | +500 |
New York Jets | +275 | -350 |
Pittsburgh Steelers | +100 | -130 |
Raiders | +400 | -600 |
Tennessee Titans | +300 | -400 |
*Odds taken 06/21/19.
That’s an increase from a 22.2 percent chance to play postseason football to a 27.8 percent opportunity. As well, Jacksonville’s odds of missing the playoffs decreased from -500 to -350.
AFC South Is Tight
Oddsmakers are bullish on the AFC South. The Indianapolis Colts, an AFC Wildcard team last season, are given the best odds in the division to make the postseason again at -260. The defending division champion Houston Texans are +150.

Next up are the Jaguars at +260 and then the Tennessee Titans bring up the rear at +300.
Every other division shows at least one team with odds of at least +400. In the AFC North, no sportsbook has offered odds on the perennially inconsistent Cincinnati Bengals.
The Foles Factor
He won a Super Bowl two years ago. He took the Philadelphia Eagles right back to the playoffs last season. Now Nick Foles is a Jag and the sense is that for the first time in years, Jacksonville has a quarterback that opposition defenses must actually gameplan against.

A certain upgrade on Blake Bortles, Foles has been impressive during OTA’s with his new club. Foles is also an established leader, a player others willingly follow into battle.
Don’t Overlook The Jaguars
A season removed from playing in the AFC Championship Game, Jacksonville still suits up one of the NFL’s stiffest defenses. Jacksonville was sixth overall in total defense during the 2018 season, allowing 311.4 yards per game. That was second-best among AFC teams. The Jags were second in the NFL in pass defense (194.6 YPG).
To that they’ve added a QB who is a proven winner and a Pro Bowl player. Against AFC South opponents during his career, Foles is 6-0 with a 102.4 passer rating. He’s thrown 11 touchdown passes and been picked off only four times.

If they get a bounceback campaign from running back Leonard Fournette, they’ll have an offense to be feared. Fournette was 46th in NFL rushing last season, gaining just 439 yards. In 2017, he rambled for 1,049 yards, good for sixth in the league. He also scored nine touchdowns.
All five of Jacksonville’s double-digit win seasons have come in odd-numbered years. The Jags won’t be division favorites but a wildcard spot in the postseason is not out of the question for them.
