2019 French Open Women’s Singles Quarters Betting

- Sportsbooks are offering a series of prop wagers on who will win the women’s singles quarterfinals at the French Open
- Simona Halep was last year’s only repeat quarterfinal winner
- Five players seeded outside the top 20 have won quarterfinals since 2014
When it comes to the women’s singles competition at the French Open, there’s one thing that’s advisable to do before making a futures bet: take the form charts and toss them in Seine.
There’s something in the red clay of Roland-Garros that creates magical moments for the lesser lights of women’s tennis. Sure, top-seeded Simona Halep won last year’s championship. But the year before, unseeded Jelena Ostapenko wore the crown. And last year was the first time since 2011 that none of the semifinalists were outside the top-15 seeds.
Keep that in mind when perusing the quarterfinal prop wagers on offer from sportsbooks.

Osaka’s Feet Of Clay
World no. 1 and top-seeded Naomi Osaka heads this group. When it comes to clay courts, though, Osaka is far from the best. She’s just 4-3 lifetime at Roland-Garros. As a result, that .571 winning percentage is her worst in any of the four Grand Slam tournaments.
She’s drawn in with a deep pool of proven clay-court players. That won’t help her chances.

The challengers include three-time champion Serena Williams. Madison Keys, was a semifinalist last year. Ostapenko (+1200), the 2017 champ, also lurks in this section of the draw.
The sleeper player to watch, however, is Maria Sakkari. While Stefanos Tsitsipas gets all the Greek tennis love and attention, Sakkari is enjoying a quietly spectacular campaign.
On clay, she won in Morocco and reached the semifinals of the Italian Open.

Can Halep Make Three Straight Finals?
Defending champion Halep lost in the 2017 final. She’ll seek to become the first women to reach three successive French Open singles finals since Justine Henin-Hardenne (2005-07).
This group shapes up as a showdown between Halep and Petra Kvitova.
Head-to-head, Halep owns a 3-1 edge and the only victory on clay. But Kvitova is a solid 9-2 on clay this season, including a tournament victory in Stuttgart.

Bertens Heads Deep Group
In World Cup soccer, they talk about the group of death. It’s where any of the teams are equally capable of going on or going home. This section of the draw in French Open women’s singles competition could be labeled the group of death.
For instance, Garbine Muguruza always seems to be on top of her game at Roland-Garros. She was champion in 2016, and was a semifinalist last year. In addition, Muguruza shows four quarterfinal appearances in the last five years.
Sloane Stephens was a finalist last year. Belinda Bencic beat Osaka while reaching the semifinals in this year’s Madrid Open.
This is one group where the chalk should be played. Kiki Bertens was a semifinalist as an unseeded player at Roland-Garros in 2016. This year, she’s taken her game to another level.
Bertens already owns two titles in 2019. On clay, she beat beat Halep in the Madrid Open final. She reached the semifinals of the Italian Open and at Stuttgart.

Karolina Carries Hot Hand
World no. 2 Karolina Pliskova heads this group. On her recent form, will take some beating. Pliskova arrives in France off a victory over Johanna Konta in the Italian Open final. She’s 6-2 on clay courts this year.
She was world no. 1 in 2017, and Pliskova could return to the top of the rankings with a win at Roland-Garros.
Her fiercest obstacle in winning this group is Angelique Kerber. Also a former world no. 1, Kerber’s season has been sidetracked by injury and illness.

A viral infection struck her early in the year. In addition, she suffered an ankle injury. As a result, she was forced to withdraw from both Madrid and the Italian Opens.
