- The Charles Schwab Challenge tees off Thursday, May 23rd
- Quaint Colonial Country Club puts premium on ball striking
- We’ve narrowed down the golfers with the best chance of emerging victorious
Another PGA Championship is in the books and Brooks Koepka has won it again leading him to be the favorite for next month’s US Open.
Coming off the major high from last week will be a decent field at famed Colonial Country Club, where ball striking is at a premium and smashing drivers every hole is not the prudent play for the longest of hitters, allowing just about anyone the opportunity to win.

Jordan Spieth Poised for First Win in Nearly Two Years
He has been saying it all year but few would listen to him – Jordan Spieth’s game is close to coming back to its once dominant form.
He finally put his words into action at the PGA Championship, where he posted his first top-20 finish of the year, a very encouraging third-place result.
Strokes Gained: Putting leaders this week:
1. @JordanSpieth (+10.826)
2. Jazz Janewattananond (+8.458)
3. @MattSJWallace (+7.931)
4. Chez Reavie (+7.254)
5. @Graeme_McDowell (+6.450) pic.twitter.com/VWwA9wk5dA— PGA TOUR (@PGATOUR) May 19, 2019
Spieth putted absolutely brilliantly at Bethpage Black, but most importantly, at least had a semblance of game with the driver.
This season he ranks a ghastly 198th in strokes gained off the tee, but if he can finish third at the punishing PGA Championship site, the friendly confines of Colonial (won in 2016) will serve him well.
Jordan Spieth’s 6 Career Charles Schwab Challenge Results
Year | Result |
---|---|
2018 | T-32nd |
2017 | T-2nd |
2016 | WIN |
2015 | T-2nd |
2014 | T-14th |
2013 | T-7th |
Xander Schauffele a Strong Bet at Charles Schwab Challenge
There’s very few golf courses that fit Xander Schauffele’s style of play more perfectly than Colonial Country Club.
Accuracy off the tee is paramount (Schauffele 27th in strokes gained off the tee) and ball striking is especially key (19th strokes gained tee to green).
"This is a major championship, and everyone is here to win, but there's only one guy who's absolutely just destroying this place. So I'm sure he's having a blast. But for the rest of us, he's making it awfully boring." – @XSchauffele #PGAChamp

Schauffele is coming off a solid tie for 16th at the PGA Championship and was runner-up at the Masters last month. His steady play and guile should serve Schauffele – second on the FedEx Cup points list – well this week.
