- After sweeping the Eastern Conference final, the Boston Bruins are -150 favorites to win the Stanley Cup
- Boston is in the Stanley Cup for the third time in eight years
- The Bruins last won the Cup in 2011
This time, the Boston Bruins didn’t need a rally. The Bruins dispatched the Carolina Hurricanes from the Stanley Cup Eastern Conference in the minimum four games.
Boston needed a comeback from a 3-2 deficit to eliminate the Toronto Maple Leafs in the opening round. Against Columbus in the second round, Boston fell behind 2-1 and then rattled off three straight wins to take out the Blue Jackets.
2019 Stanley Cup Odds
Team | Odds |
---|---|
Boston Bruins | -150 |
San Jose Sharks | +210 |
St. Louis Blues | +500 |
*Odds taken 05/17/19
The Bruins most recently won the Cup in 2010-11.
This will be the Bruins’ third appearance in the Stanley Cup final in eight years. With odds of -150, Boston now has the shortest Stanley Cup odds of any of the three remaining teams.

Bruins Are Rolling
Boston has won seven games in a row. The last time the Bruins won seven playoff games in succession was in the spring of 1972, when Boston won the Stanley Cup.
During Boston’s 1970 Stanley Cup triumph, the team rolled through the postseason by winning the last 10 games. That’s the franchise record for consecutive playoff wins.

Against the Hurricanes, Boston allowed just five goals in four games. Boston has allowed two goals or fewer in 10 of the last 12 games.
The Experience Factor
Five Bruins have their names inscribed on the Cup – Tuukka Rask, Patrice Bergeron, Zdeno Chara, David Krejci, and Brad Marchand.
Tuukka Rask of the @NHLBruins improved to 8-0 in eight career appearances in the Conference Finals (also 4-0 in 2013).
He is the seventh different goaltender in NHL history to earn wins in 8+ consecutive appearances in the Conference Finals/Semifinals. #NHLStats #StanleyCup pic.twitter.com/2KBdWxo6Y0

Bergeron, Chara, Krejci and Marchand have all played 100 playoff games and Krejci is among five players in franchise history with 100 playoff points.
Martin Jones is the only San Jose Shark with his name on the Cup. No St. Louis Blues player has won a Cup.
Either Way, It’s Epic
If Boston faces the Blues in the final, you get the memories of the 1970 Boston-St. Louis final. Over/under on how many times we’ll see footage of Bobby Orr’s Game 4 overtime goal?
Ten of the @NHLBruins’ 20 all-time #StanleyCup Final appearances have occurred in the NHL’s expansion era (since 1967-68), the second-most in that span behind only Montreal (11). #NHLStats pic.twitter.com/AoZQmRlHEj

If it’s the Sharks, you get the matchup of the Bruins against Joe Thornton, the player Boston took first overall in the 1997 NHL entry draft.
A Sweeping Indictment?
In the opening round, the New York Islanders swept Pittsburgh. Then Carolina swept the Isles. Now the Bruins have swept the Hurricanes.
Should you follow that trend and play the Bruins to be swept in the final?
The @NHLBruins swept a best-of-seven #StanleyCup Playoffs series for the 15th time in franchise history and sixth in the Conference Finals/Semifinals (also 1970 vs. CHI, 1972 vs. STL, 1977 vs. PHI, 1990 vs. WSH and 2013 vs. PIT). #NHLStats pic.twitter.com/e5o5e4I8vs

Or you could go with this trend – both the Sharks or Blues have played in the final but neither has won the Cup. In 2011, Boston beat Vancouver for the Cup. The Canucks had played in previous finals but never won the Cup.
Take the second option. Boston is the team to bet here but is now the time to bet the Bruins?
The @NHLBruins extended their win streak to seven games, the third-longest in a postseason in franchise history behind only runs of 10-0 in 1970 and 9-0 in 1972. https://t.co/qHS3YMKElk #NHLStats #StanleyCup pic.twitter.com/vrHidNQoFh

Maybe wait and hope Boston loses a game in the final series. It’s not like you’d be passing on a great price.
Either way, Boston’s the play.
