- The 101st PGA Championship tees off Thursday, May 16, 2019
- Tiger Woods in search of the first two legs of the grand slam
- Plenty of prop bets to wager on for the 15-time major champ
The season’s second major is upon us for the PGA Championship at Bethpage Black, which has hosted two major championships before – the 2002 U.S. Open won by Tiger Woods, and again in 2009, where Lucas Glover was victorious.
Tiger Woods is listed as the favorite to add to his major collection this week and there are also plenty of prop bets to place a wager on for the four-time PGA champion (1999, 2000, 2006, 2007).
Tiger Woods’ Finish Odds
Tiger Woods’ finish | Yes Odds | No Odds |
---|---|---|
Top 5 | +250 | -325 |
Top 10 | +145 | -175 |
Top 20 | -160 | +130 |
*Odds taken 05/14/19
Woods has been in contention deep into the back nine in each of the last three major championships. Now that he’s won one, his confidence couldn’t be higher.
So to wager on him being outside the top 20 is fools gold considering the odds aren’t even that great.

The two times he’s competed at Bethpage Black he won it in 2002 and finished sixth in 2009. Given his form at majors, I think it’s a virtual certainty he finds himself in the top 10.

With the long course and penal rough, being able to hit lots of greens is paramount and Woods has been phenomenal at that. Picking a top-5 finish is tricky but still the best bet to make here.
Picks: Yes to all three (+250, +145, -160)
Tiger Woods Round Leader Odds
Will Woods lead after 1st & 3rd rounds? | Yes Odds | No Odds |
---|---|---|
1st round | +1400 | -4000 |
3rd round | +1200 | -3300 |
In just one of his four career PGA Championship titles did Tiger lead after the first day (2000 PGA at Valhalla). At this year’s Masters, Woods was in 11th place after the first round and he also wasn’t out in front at the 2018 PGA and Open Championships. He’s somewhat of a “slow” starter, so don’t wager on him leading.
Doing some PGA Champ prep work and revisited this one…
There were 83 players with 75 or more rounds played in majors from 1997 through 2009. Best cumulative scores to par in that span:
Tiger Woods -134
Phil Mickelson +99 (233-shot difference)
Ernie Els +118
Steve Flesch +119— Justin Ray (@JustinRayGolf) May 8, 2019
I’d be much more inclined to bet on Tiger grabbing the 54 hole lead than the first round. Even still, with a wealth of great players in fine form it’ll be tough on Woods, but show some faith in Big Cat.
Picks: No 1st round lead (-4000), Yes 3rd round lead (+1200)
Tiger Woods Cut Odds
Will Tiger Woods make the cut? | Odds |
---|---|
Yes | -900 |
No | +550 |
Tiger hasn’t missed a cut since last year’s U.S. Open. Don’t try anything fancy here, particularly at the still shockingly unappealing +550 odds. He’ll make the cut – end of story.
Pick: Yes (-900)
Tiger Woods Winning Odds
Will Tiger Woods win the PGA Championship? | Odds |
---|---|
Yes | +1000 |
No | -2000 |
Asking Tiger to complete the first two legs of the grand slam is a gigantic task, regardless of him perhaps being the greatest golfer of all time.
Fool me once, shame on me. Fool me twice, well, shame on me again. I didn’t have him pegged to slip into a green jacket, so I won’t doubt the man yet again.
Pick: Yes (+1000)
Tiger Woods Tournament Matchups
Tiger Woods vs Brooks Koepka | Odds |
---|---|
Brooks Koepka | -130 |
Tiger Woods | EVEN |
In the last two major championships these two behemoths finished first and second, with Koepka edging Tiger at the PGA last year and of course Woods defeating Brooks at this year’s Masters.
You’re getting better odds wagering on Tiger here, so that clinches it.
Pick: Tiger Woods (EVEN)
Tiger Woods vs Rory McIlroy | Odds |
---|---|
Rory McIlroy | -150 |
Tiger Woods | +115 |
Oddsmakers really are trying to sucker us to be all-in with Tiger, and if he has an off week they’ll profit handsomely.
Despite proclaiming Rory McIlroy to be the best bet at the PGA, he hasn’t had a top-10 in his last four attempts at this tournament. This feels like oddsmakers are twisting our minds to fit the narrative to go for Tiger and I’m falling for it.
Pick: Tiger Woods (+115)
