Surviving the Snap: Deadpool Pool for Avengers: Endgame

Less than a week away now, the hype around Avengers: Endgame has reached epic proportions but there is still more hype to go.

A big part of the Endgame hype is all about death. In Avengers: Infinity War, we saw Thanos successfully pull off his snap, eliminating half of the universe and several popular Marvel characters in the process.

Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, Hulk, and Black Widow all still remain, but their fates are up in the air as well.

We’ve been scouring Google, Reddit, and YouTube trying to find out which characters will survive their next epic clash with Thanos, and have created unique odds for each. Let’s get started!

Odds of Dying in Avengers: Endgame

Tony Stark/Iron Man

Odds Tony Stark/Iron Man Dies

Tony has been one of the Marvel Comic Universe’s (MCU) central characters since the first Iron Man, which premiered in 2008, kicked things off.

He almost died in Infinity War after an epic battle with Thanos while attempting to remove the Infinity Gauntlet. We’re not sure if Thanos spared Stark on purpose or if it was mere luck that he did not die in Thanos’ snap. He is at the end of his run in the MCU, so Iron Man and Captain America have the highest odds to die. Robert Downey Jr. has also said that his future within the franchise is uncertain.

Steve Rogers/Captain America

Odds Steve Rogers/Captain America Dies

Like Iron Man, Captain America has been another of MCU’s central characters since 2011. He’s led the Avengers with Stark and clashed over direction of the Avengers in Captain America: Civil War. He’s been part of the epic battle with Thanos’ forces in Wakanda but has not directly met the mad Titan yet.

Chris Evans has portrayed Rogers since his screen debut and indicated recently that his story in the MCU is almost complete. He didn’t say why or how. Rogers has always projected a soldier’s code and honor indicating that he will do whatever it takes to save the day even if that means death.

Thor

Odds Thor Dies

The God of Thunder and leader of Asgard suffered huge losses to start Infinity War. His ship and people were decimated by Thanos and his brother Loki was killed while he watched.

Rescued by the Guardians, Thor and Rocket Raccoon journeyed to Nidavellir to help construct Stormbreaker, the Thanos killing weapon. Thor repels Thanos gauntlet power and injures him, but Thanos is able to still complete the snap.

Thor has a lot to avenge, pun intended, but actor Chris Hemsworth’s contract is up at the end of Endgame. It’s a good bet Thor will survive this movie, but it’s unclear in what capacity he will be involved in the MCU going forward. People believe that Thor is immortal, but he is not, so his survival is not guaranteed.

Bruce Banner/The Hulk

Odds Bruce Banner/The Hulk Dies

Bruce Banner and his green friend the Hulk had an early entry in the MCU with The Hulk being released right after Iron Man. This movie seemed to fly under the radar for quite a while until Banner was reintroduced in 2012’s Avengers.

Thanos gave the Hulk a serious beat down at the start of Infinity War. He doesn’t appear again in the movie and uses Ironman’s Hulk Buster suit in the Wakanda battle. He faces Thanos again once the Mad Titan has all the Infinity Stones and is easily stopped.

Banner’s future is not set in stone either as is many of the main Avengers characters heading into Endgame. Mark Ruffalo signed a six picture deal with Marvel and this leaves him with one more film to appear in.

Peter Parker/Spider-Man

Odds Peter Parker/Spider-Man Dies

We know Spider-Man dies at the end of Infinity War, a victim of the snap.

Spider-Man: Far From Home is set to hit theaters everywhere this summer, and Peter is alive in those trailers at least. So is Nick Fury. This suggests that both are brought back and Spidey continues to be part of the MCU. Or does he?

Marvel is banking on using Spider-Man for a while in the MCU given that Spider-Man: Homecoming came out just two years ago.

T’Challa/Black Panther

Odds T’Challa/Black Panther Dies

Given his own movie and the role Wakanda plays in Infinity War with a major battle scene, we saw Black Panther die in the snap and that left us wondering where he is.

He’s long gone according to Chadwick Boseman in a recent Mashable article. When pressed about his appearance in Endgame, Boseman replied, “I’m dead.”

We’ll just leave it at that.

Dr. Strange

Odds Dr. Strange Dies

Dr. Strange played a big part in Infinity War since he is the keeper of the Time Stone. He reluctantly partners with Tony Stark and then goes against his vow that he will sacrifice Tony’s life over the Time Stone.

He also tells Tony Stark that out of the 14 million plus outcomes, there is only one in which he sees them defeat Thanos. That’s great foreshadowing.

He dies in the snap, but knowing what we know of Dr. Strange and his character (if not his wisdom and power), he is due to come back. It helps that Marvel also confirmed a Dr. Strange 2.

Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow

Odds Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow Dies

Natasha Romanoff’s Black Widow has been a big part of the MCU since the first Avengers movie in 2012. She took the loss of snap hard and seems bent on revenge of her fellow Avengers.

Marvel hasn’t announced a solo Black Widow movie as of yet, but rumor has it that we will see something official once Avengers: Endgame is released. Is it a safe bet to assume she survives Endgame and continues to be part of the MCU? We’ll have to wait and see.

Hawkeye/Clint Barton

Odds Clint Barton/Hawkeye Dies

Hawkeye does not appear in Infinity War at all. Retired after Age of Ultron, he’s mentioned in Infinity War, having take a deal as a result of the Sokovia Accords.

An Endgame trailer released recently called Mission Spot shows the team assembling with Hawkeye involved.

Nick Fury

Odds Nick Fury Dies

Fury, the architect of the Avengers, has made many appearances throughout the MCU but was not involved in Infinity War until the end where you see him killed by the snap.

He notified Captain Marvel, and we have now seen their relationship with Captain Marvel’s arrival in theatres in March, leading us to believe she has the answers to stopping Thanos.

Avengers: Age of Ultron could hold the clue to Fury, his fate and a potential major plot point in Endgame. One can speculate that when he comes to see Tony in Hawkeye’s barn in Age of Ultron that it is a Fury has traveled from the future, arrived at that moment in time of the Ultron and has clues on how to defeat Thanos.

The Guardians of the Galaxy

Odds the Guardians of the Galaxy All Die

All the Guardians were gone with the snap. The only ones left is Rocket Raccoon and Nebula.

A third Guardians movie is slated to be released and we cannot imagine a movie without Peter Quill/Star Lord, Drax, Mantis, and Groot. Again, since the characters were killed in the snap we can only speculate that the snap is reversed and the Guardians are reunited. Let’s hope so. We love their humor and fondness for Kevin Bacon and Footloose.

Scarlet Witch

Odds Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch Dies

Scarlet Witch made a last ditch effort to stop Thanos in Infinity War by using her her power to kill Vision and thus destroy the Mind Stone implanted in his head.

Thanos in possession of the Time Stone, reverses her actions, kills Vision and takes the mind stone thereby completing his quest.

She is killed by the snap and trailers and clues from Endgame don’t as of yet tell us her fate.

Bucky Barnes

Odds Bucky Barnes Dies

His story arc has been interesting as he went from a good character in Captain America: The First Avenger to a super villain as the Winter Soldier and back again thanks to Steve Rogers. Rogers saved Barnes to start Captain America: Civil War and Barnes was given refuge in Wakanda.

Reddit rumors say Captain America dies and Barnes takes his spot, fueling theories that the snap is reversed and the Captain makes a big sacrifice to save the universe and Bucky lives.

Ant-Man

Odds Ant-Man Dies

We witnessed the snap at the end of Ant-Man and the Wasp with Hank Pym, Hope and Janet Van Dyn all victims of the snap. Ant-Man survived and is stuck in the Quantum Realm. We think he gets out as he makes it to the Avengers compound. He is, after all, in several Endgame trailers.

Pepper Pots Dies and Happy Hogan

Odds Pepper Potts and Happy Hogan Die

Pepper Potts and Happy Hogan were small players in Infinity War and the last we heard of Pepper she was on a call with Tony Stark which dropped in space. Endgame trailers see Stark dedicate his in-space message to her recalling the first Iron Man movie and how they fell in love.

One would think Marvel could spice things and see her eliminated in the snap or even out of Endgame all together. She had a big part at the start of the MCU with the first Iron Man but one wonders how she fits if Stark is gone. Same goes for Happy who hasn’t had a significant movie role in a while.

Nebula

Odds Nebula Dies

Nebula had a few good battles with Thanos and survived the snap. She wants revenge on Thanos for torturing her and killing her sister Gamora. Nebula could be a dark horse in Avengers: Endgame in stopping Thanos, but will she work with the Avengers or do so on her own?

Digital Spy ran a recent article in which actress Karen Gillan, who plays Nebula, almost gave away a major plot piece in saying she wants Nebula to face Thanos.

It’s a good bet she does but how, and on whose terms, are still up in the air.

Resurrecting Gamora

Odds Gamora is Resurrected

This is my theory backed up with a good dose of internet rumors and speculation from Quora on Gamora and her fate.

Gamora, Thanos’ daughter was killed when Thanos sacrificed her for the Soul Stone so we think she’s dead. But is she? The Soul Stone, as we find out from this Quora article, absorbed Gamora’s fall and soul and she is still alive. The death is temporary and she can be be brought back.

I’d like to see Gomorra come back. She is a kick-ass character and a third Guardians of the Galaxy film is supposed to be in the works. Can’t imagine a Guardians movie without her. It’s possible given that she resides in the Soul Stone.
