- Alexander Zverev is favored to win the ATP Acapulco men’s singles title
- Zverev has reached the semifinal stage in both the singles and doubles competition
- Zverev is 8-1 in match play this year
Has the time for Alexander Zverev to shine in sunny Mexico arrived? The world’s No. 3 player is favored to win the ATP Acapulco men’s singles title.
But like a baseball player, Zverev is also poised to turn two. He and his brother Mischa have combined to reach the semifinals of the tournament’s double competition.
Zverev has yet to drop a set in Mexico. He took out Alexei Popyrin 6-3, 6-3 in the round of 32 and toppled four-time Acapulco champion David Ferrer 7-6, 6-1 in the round of 16.
2019 ATP Acapulco Men’s Singles Odds
Player | Odds to Win 2019 Mexican Open Men’s Singles |
---|---|
Alexander Zverev | -135 |
Nick Krygios | +300 |
John Isner | +400 |
Cameron Norrie | +700 |
*Odds taken on 03/01/19
Zverev zipped past Alex De Minaur 6-4, 6-4 in the quarterfinals to improve to 4-0 lifetime vs De Minaur.
Cameron Norrie, Zverev’s semifinal opponent, is new to him. They’ve never faced each other before. As for the other semifinalists, Zverev is 3-3 all-time in matches against Nick Kyrgios.

But the guy he’d love to face is John Isner. The No. 9-ranked player in the world, Isner is a dismal 1-5 when staring across the net at Zverev.
Alex Making His Mark
Zverev was a four-time winner on the ATP Tour in 2018. His most recent victory came in the Nitto ATP Finals in London on November 17th. He’s been battling an ankle injury in the early part of the season.
But he’s done well in a brief sample size at Acapulco, with a 6-1 lifetime mark in the tournament. He also reached the semifinal stage here a year ago.

Since none of the remaining final four have ever won this event, no matter who wins in Acapulco, it’s assured that the tournament will have a different winner for the seventh straight year, and a first-time winner for the fourth straight year.
Breaking Down the Semis
Norrie needed three sets to eliminate each of his first two opponents and is still looking for his first ATP title.

He’s cracked the top 50 plateau in the world rankings for the first time.

Alexander Zverev | -500 | -4 (-130) | U 21.5 (-105) |
*Start Time 7:05pm EST 3/1
Zverev holds the experience edge, with 10 titles on his resume.
It will be power against power as Isner and Krygios, two of the sport’s ace servers, tee it up in the other semifinal.
Nick Krygios vs John Isner ATP Acapulco Semifinal Odds

Krygios got a frosty response from Rafael Nadal after he toppled the world’s No. 2 player 3-6, 7-6, 7-6 in the round of 16.

Like a pro wrestler, Krygios embraces his role as a heel.

This will be the fifth meeting between Krygios and Isner. They are deadlocked 2-2 all-time but Krygios has won the last two times they’ve clashed on court.
Zverev is the best bet here. He’ll dispose of Norrie in short order and take out Krygios in the final.
Are Zverevs Double Trouble?
Oh brother, is it ever going well for Zverev. Or in the case of the doubles tournament, Zverevs.

The Zverev brothers – Alex and Mischa – aren’t even ranked in the top 100 doubles players in the world. But they made a bold statement, stunning world No. 6 Bob and Mike Bryan 5-7, 6-4, 10-7 in the quarterfinals.
Feliciano/Marc Lopez vs Alexander/Mischa Zverev ATP Acapulco Doubles Semifinal Odds
Player | Moneyline | Point Spread | Total |
---|---|---|---|
Feliciano/Marc Lopez | -115 | -0.5 (EVEN) | O 21 (-120) |
Alexander/Mischa Zverev | -110 | +0.5 (-130) | U 21 (-110) |
*Start Time 8:30pm EST 3/1
They’ll face a tough test here in the Lopez brothers, 2016 French Open doubles champs. Alexander will have to jump right from his singles semifinal into this match, and that’s a lot to ask of any player.
Marcel Granollers/Nikola Mektic vs Austin Krajicek/Artem Sitak ATP Acupulco Semifinal Odds
Player | Moneyline | Point Spread | Total |
---|---|---|---|
Marcel Granollers/Nikola Mektic | -180 | 02 (-105) | O 21 (EVEN) |
Austin Krajicek/Artem Sitak | +145 | +2 (-125) | U 21 (-130) |
*Start Time 8:30pm EST 3/1
We like the Granollers/Mektic pairing to go all the way here and wear the doubles crown.
