- Duke’s Jack White has missed his last 28 shots from beyond the arc
- Prior to the slump, White had made a three in 13 of the Blue Devils’ 15 games
- Is there value on him making a three-point shot Saturday versus Miami?
Jack White is in the midst of an epic slump. The Duke Junior has been ice cold from beyond the arc over the last six weeks, missing each of his last 28 three-point attempts.
It’s got to the point where I actually hope Jack White never hits another 3. 0-28 is damn impressive

White’s long distance drought has spanned the Blue Devils’ last 12 games, and although he hasn’t made a three since January 12th, the odds favor him snapping the streak Saturday against Miami.

On paper, a matchup versus the Hurricanes should be just what the doctor ordered to cure White’s woes. Miami is one of the worst teams in the ACC at defending the three, ranking 12th in the conference, but that might actually work against White in this situation.
White’s Opportunities May Be Limited
White’s slump began with an abysmal 0-for-10 performance in a loss versus Syracuse. During his cold streak, he’s attempted more than two three-point shots in just three games, all of which were Blue Devils losses.

Duke will be heavily favored against a weak Hurricanes squad, and the opportunities for White to knock down a long distance shot may be limited. He’s attempted only eight three-point shots total in the last 10 Blue Devils victories, and in four of those wins he didn’t attempt a single shot from beyond the arc.
White Should Focus on His Strengths
Despite starting the season shooting an unsustainable 40% from three, White is best known for his play at the defensive end.

He’s one of Duke’s premier defenders, ranking second on the team in blocks, and third in rebounds. His contributions on offense are limited, and not something the Blue Devils expect or count on. He should abandon his outside game, and take more shots from inside the arc, where he’s hitting at a 76% clip this season.
Fade White’s Inflated Odds
White’s slump won’t last forever, but the current odds on him making a three versus Miami offer no value. At -150, we’d need him to make a three 60% of the time just to break even. He’s made a shot from beyond the arc in just 48% of his games this season, and just 24% of the games in his college career. I’ll bet +110 against him anywhere I can find it.
