Rangers Betting Trends

The New York Rangers swept the Washington Capitals in the first round of the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs to become the first team to advance to the second round. The Rangers, who captured the Presidents’ Trophy with 114 points, dominated the series against the Capitals, outscoring them 11-5 over the four games.

Igor Shesterkin, the Rangers’ star goaltender, was a brick wall between the pipes, allowing only five goals in the series. His stellar performance was a key factor in the team’s success, as he consistently shut down the Capitals’ offensive stars.

The Rangers’ top players also shone brightly during the series. Artemi Panarin, Mika Zibanejad, and Chris Kreider were instrumental in the team’s potent power play, which ranked fourth in the NHL during the regular season at 26.4%

However, the Rangers’ 5-on-5 play has been a point of concern all year. Despite their overall success, the team ranked 23rd in expected goals percentage (48.6%) and had a slightly underwater percentage of shot attempts per 60 minutes (49.8%) during the regular season

New York’s five-on-five play could potentially be an area of vulnerability against a Carolina team that excels at controlling 5-on-5 play.

Hurricanes Betting Trends

The Carolina Hurricanes advanced to the second round of the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs by defeating the New York Islanders in five games. The Hurricanes, who finished second in the Metropolitan Division with 111 points, showcased their depth and resilience throughout the series.

Frederik Andersen, the Hurricanes’ starting goaltender, was solid between the pipes, making several key saves to help his team secure the series victory. Goaltending has been an area of concern for the Canes in recent postseasons, but Andersen enters Round 2 with a stellar

The Hurricanes’ top players also made significant contributions during the series. Sebastian Aho, who led the team in goals (36), assists (53), and points (89) during the regular season, continued his offensive dominance in the playoffs.

Andrei Svechnikov and Trade Deadline acquisition Jake Guentzel also played vital roles in the team’s success, using their skill and physicality to create scoring opportunities. Kuzy scored with his signature “slo-mo” move on a penalty shot in Game 5.

Carolina’s defensive corps, led by Jaccob Slavin and Brett Pesce, was instrumental in shutting down the Islanders’ offensive efforts. The team’s ability to limit high-danger scoring chances and maintain puck possession was a major factor in their series victory.

Rangers vs Hurricanes Series Prediction

The Rangers have had the Canes’ number lately, winning seven of the past nine meetings dating back to the 2022 Conference Semi-Finals. In that series, the Rangers prevailed in seven games, winning Game 7 by a dominant 6-2 score in Raleigh.

*stats from regular season

Carolina’s clear edge is in possession play, where they have vastly superior advanced metrics. However, Shesterkin is unquestionably the best goalie in the series. Andersen’s impressive play since returning from blood clots is a primary reason oddsmakers are favoring Carolina in this series.

New York is great value right now if you like the Rangers to advance. However, the Canes are our pick in the Stanley Cup odds, so we’re sticking by them in Round 2. They are the better defensive team, appear to finally have the goaltending, and made trade deadline moves that have significantly improved their roster.

We’re likely in for another six or seven-game series, but we like the Canes to exact revenge on the Rangers.
