The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will face the New Orleans Saints for the right to play in the NFC Championship game on January 24th. The Saints looked as impressive as ever in the opening round of the playoffs smashing the Bears in a game that was never close. The Buccaneers, on the other hand, had their hands full with the Washington Football Team winning 31-23 but failing to cover.

This will be the third time these two teams have met this season with the Saints winning both previous matchups. The Saints are favored by 3 points from NHL odds in this matchup and there are plenty of player props to consider.

Jared Cook Is Sneaky

The Saints are not a team that targets the tight end position much in the pass game. In fact, only six teams in the NFL targeted their tight ends less than New Orleans in the regular season. That’s why it’s easy to forget about Jared Cook going into Sunday night’s game with the Buccaneers.

Cook’s receiving numbers should be interesting to bettors given how he is used in the offense. Of every tight end in the NFL that played at least 25% of their team’s snaps, only one had a higher ADOT than Cook. He is targeted down the field and usually doesn’t have the full attention of defenses because of the presence of Alvin Kamara and Michael Thomas.

Tampa Bay was seventh-worst in the NFL this season in terms of allowing tight end receptions. The Saints beat the Buccaneers twice during the regular season and both times the Buccaneers had issues with Jared Cook as he had at least one catch of at least 19 yards in both games. If this game stays close, Cook should smash his receiving yardage prop.

The Pick: Jared Cook Over 29.5 Receiving Yards (-110)

Who Scores?

Both the Saints and Buccaneers only gave up 11 touchdowns to opposing running backs this season which tied for fewest in the NFL. For that reason, it makes sense to look at another position group to find pay dirt this weekend. Both team’s tight end room stand out the most but one Buccaneer is sliding under the radar.

Cameron Brate was used extensively last week when Tampa Bay needed Rob Gronkowski to help out in protection and that could be the case again this week. In the two games the Buccaneers played with the Saints this season, they only scored three touchdowns. Tom Brady snuck one in, Mike Evans caught one and one was hauled in by tight end OJ Howard who won’t be available this week. On the season, the Saints gave up nine touchdowns to the tight end position so it’s not crazy to think Brate could slip in this week. At +550 it’s well worth the risk.

Pick: Cameron Brate – Anytime Touchdown Scorer (+550)
