Trojans Have Been Betting Nightmare

USC may be undefeated through three games, but they haven’t made it easy on bettors. The Trojans narrowly found ways to beat Arizona and Arizona State to open the season, before getting things on track with a 33-17 win over Utah last weekend.

The Trojans were double-digit favorites in their first two games, but went on to win both contests by fewer than four points.

The Trojans appears to be trending in the right direction after their big win over Utah, but keep in mind Utes’ starting quarterback Cam Rising got injured in the second quarter and the team was debuting a young and inexperienced defense. USC’s elite offense still hasn’t played up to their full potential, while the defense has had issues against the run this year.

The positive for the Trojans through three games is QB Kedon Slovis. The junior pivot looked great against the Utes, completing 24 of 35 passes for 264 yards and two touchdowns with one interception. He doesn’t appear as sharp as he was last season, but he should have another big day against a Colorado secondary giving up 315 yards per game.

Buffaloes off to Impressive Start

Colorado is off to a surprising 2-0 start after defeating Stanford and UCLA before having their Week 12 game against Arizona State cancelled due to COVID-19. The Buffaloes’ season-opening 48-42 victory over the Bruins is even more impressive when you consider that UCLA just hung with Pac-12 powerhouse Oregon during a 38-35 loss last weekend.

While Colorado is clearly outmatched in talent in this matchup, they have a few weapons that could help keep the game close. Senior quarterback Sam Noyer is completing 63.6 percent of his passes, while sophomore running back Jarek Broussard has exploded for 308 rushing yards in his first two games.

While USC’s offense has the potential to go off in any given game, their defense leaves lots to be desired. The Trojans beat the Utes by forcing five turnovers and taking advantage of those opportunities on offense. They’ll be in tough to continue that momentum against a Buffaloes offense that has yet to commit a turnover and is very responsible with the football.

The Best Bet

While USC covered the spread against an inexperienced Utah team, it’s hard to be confident in this group after what we saw in their first two games. Bettors feel the same, as USC’s point total against Colorado has dropped to -11.5 after opening at -13.5.

Colorado has looked impressive through two games and should keep it close against the Trojans. Expect another big game from Jarek Broussard, who shouldn’t have a problem making it happen on the ground against a USC rush defense surrendering 175.7 yards per game.

The Trojans have an impressive win streak going in this matchup, but only one of their last five victories was by more than 11 points. Colorado had a 38-21 lead heading into the fourth quarter last season and could’ve won if they had recovered a fumble from Slovis on the winning drive.

The Buffaloes have scored 35 points in back-to-back games and are 2-0 ATS this season. USC’s defense looked very vulnerable in its first two games, and the Buffaloes have the weapons to take advantage and keep this game close.
